नारद–शुक संवादः (Nārada–Śuka Dialogue): Tyāga, Saṃyama, and Vyakta–Avyakta Viveka

वेदेषु चाष्टगुणिनं योगमाहुर्मनीषिण: । सूक्ष्ममष्टगुणं प्राहुनेंतरं नृपसत्तम

vedeṣu cāṣṭaguṇinaṃ yogam āhur manīṣiṇaḥ | sūkṣmam aṣṭaguṇaṃ prāhur na itaraṃ nṛpasattama ||

યાજ્ઞવલ્ક્ય બોલ્યા—હે નૃપશ્રેષ્ઠ! મનીષીઓ કહે છે કે વેદોમાં યોગ બે પ્રકારનો વર્ણિત છે—સ્થૂલ અને સૂક્ષ્મ. સ્થૂલ યોગ અણિમા વગેરે અષ્ટસિદ્ધિ આપનાર કહેવાય છે; પરંતુ સૂક્ષ્મ યોગ જ ખરેખર અષ્ટાંગ છે—યમ, નિયમ, આસન, પ્રાણાયામ, પ્રત્યાહાર, ધારણા, ધ્યાન અને સમાધિ—આ આઠ અંગોથી યુક્ત; બીજો નથી.
