Aśmagīta: Janaka’s Inquiry on Loss, Kāla, and the Limits of Control (अश्मगीता)

दृश्यते चाप्यतिक्रामन्ननिग्राह्मो5थवा पुनः । कोई इस सेतुका उल्लंघन करता दिखायी नहीं देता अथवा पहले भी किसीने इसका उल्लंघन किया हो, ऐसा देखनेमें नहीं आया। कोई-कोई पुरुष जो (तपस्या आदि प्रबल पुरुषार्थके द्वारा) दैवके नियन्त्रणमें रहनेयोग्य नहीं है, वह पूर्वोक्त सेतुका उल्लंघन करता भी दिखायी देता है

Transliteration

dṛśyate cāpyatikrāmann anigrāhyo ’thavā punaḥ |

Translation

જનક કહે છે—સામાન્ય રીતે કોઈને આ સ્થિર કરાયેલા સેતુનું ઉલ્લંઘન કરતા જોવામાં આવતું નથી; ભૂતકાળમાં પણ કોઈએ તેને ઓળંગ્યું હોય—એવું સહેજે સાંભળવામાં નથી આવતું. પરંતુ ક્યારેક કોઈ એવો પુરુષ—જે દૈવના નિયંત્રણમાં રહેવા યોગ્ય નથી રહેતો, જે તપસ્યા વગેરે પ્રબળ પુરુષાર્થથી ભાગ્યના બંધનને ઢીલું કરે—તે આ સેતુને ઓળંગતો પણ દેખાય છે.
