Householder Primacy and the Royal Duty of Punishment
तमब्रवीत् समागम्य स राजा धर्मवित्तमम् | किमागमनमाचक्ष्व भगवन् कृतमेव तत्,राजाने उन धर्मज्ञ मुनिसे मिलकर पूछा--“भगवन्! आपका शुभागमन किस उद्देश्यसे हुआ है? यह बताइये और उसे पूरा हुआ ही समझिये”
tam abravīt samāgamya sa rājā dharmavittamam | kim āgamanam ācakṣva bhagavan kṛtam eva tat ||
ધર્મવિદ્ એવા મુનિને મળીને રાજાએ કહ્યું— “ભગવન્! આપનું આગમન કયા હેતુથી થયું છે? કહો; તે કાર્ય પૂર્ણ થયું જ સમજો.”
व्यास उवाच
The verse models dharmic kingship: a ruler receives a sage with reverence, asks the purpose of the visit, and commits to fulfilling it—showing humility before spiritual authority and readiness to act for righteous ends.
A king approaches a revered dharma-knower (in context, the sage figure) and inquires why he has come, assuring him that whatever is requested should be regarded as already accomplished.
