Daṇḍotpatti-kathana (Origin and Function of Daṇḍa) — वसुहोम–मान्धातृ संवाद
भर्तप्रत्यय उत्पन्नो व्यवहारस्तथापर: । तस्माद् यः स हितो दृष्टो भर्तप्रत्ययलक्षण:
bhartapratyaya utpanno vyavahāras tathāparaḥ | tasmād yaḥ sa hito dṛṣṭo bhartapratyayalakṣaṇaḥ ||
ભીષ્મે કહ્યું— સ્વામી/અધિકારી પરના વિશ્વાસથી પણ એક પ્રકારનો ન્યાયવ્યવહાર ઊભો થાય છે; તે વાદી-પ્રતિવાદીના વિવાદથી ઊભા થતા વ્યવહારથી જુદો છે. તેથી એવા વિશ્વાસના આધાર પર જે નિર્ણય અથવા દંડ આપવામાં આવે, તેને ‘ભર્તૃપ્રત્યયલક્ષણ’ કહેવામાં આવે છે; અને તે સમગ્ર જગતના હિતકારક તરીકે માન્ય છે.
