वैशम्पायन उवाच
Earnest inquiry is praised as a noble trait: a worthy listener’s curiosity sustains the transmission of dharma and history, and it gladdens the teacher-narrator who is entrusted with preserving the tradition.
Within the frame-story, Vaiśampāyana responds to King Janamejaya’s question. He commends the king’s curiosity as fitting for a Kuru and expresses that the king’s words inspire joy in him, encouraging the continuation of the narration.
