Nārada’s Examination of Royal Ethics

Educational Q&A

A ruler should act with timely judgment and strategic clarity: identify vulnerabilities (especially threats from the rear), commit to a policy aimed at success rather than self-defeating choices, and uphold obligations to soldiers by paying them properly—ideally in advance—before undertaking war.

Nārada addresses a king and commends him for preparing to launch a campaign at the right moment, after evaluating strategic risks and ensuring the army’s morale and duty are secured through advance payment.
