ऑपन--माज बक। अकाल पञ्चनवतितमो< ध्याय: कौरव-सेनाका शिबिरकी लक पलायन और शिबिरोंमें प्रवेश संजय उवाच हते वैकर्तने राजन् कुरवो भयपीडिता: । वीक्षमाणा दिश: सर्वा: पयपितु: सहस्रश:
sañjaya uvāca | hate vaikarṭane rājan kuravo bhayapīḍitāḥ | vīkṣamāṇā diśaḥ sarvāḥ pradrutāḥ sahasraśaḥ ||
સંજય બોલ્યો—હે રાજન, વૈકર્તન (કર્ણ) હણાયો ત્યારે કૌરવો ભયથી પીડિત થયા. તેઓ સર્વ દિશાઓ તરફ નજર કરતાં હજારોની સંખ્યામાં ભાગી નીકળ્યા. તેમના અગ્રણી વીરમાં પડતાં જ ધૈર્ય તૂટી ગયું અને સેનામાં আতંક ફેલાયો।
