ज्यातलनत्रेषुशब्दांश्न शृणु कर्ण महात्मनाम् | “कर्ण! बाणोंके भाँति-भाँतिके शब्द, मनुष्यों, घोड़ों और रथोंके कोलाहल तथा महामनस्वी वीरोंकी प्रत्यंचा और दस्तानोंके शब्द सुनो
Sañjaya uvāca: jyātalanatreṣuśabdāṃś ca śṛṇu karṇa mahātmanām | karṇa! bāṇānāṃ bhānti-bhāntike śabdān manuṣyāśva-ratha-kolāhalaṃ ca mahāmanasvī-vīrāṇāṃ pratyancā-dastāna-śabdāṃś ca śṛṇu ||
સંજય બોલ્યો—હે કર્ણ, મહાત્મા વીરોના નાદ સાંભળ—ધનુષ્યની પ્રત્યંચાની ટંકાર, રક્ષણસામગ્રીની ચટચટ, બાણોના નાનાવિધ શીંકાર અને આઘાતનો ઠકઠક, તથા મનુષ્ય-ઘોડા-રથોનો ઘોર કોલાહલ. સાંભળ, જાણે રણભૂમિ જ આ કઠોર યુદ્ધધર્મમાં પ્રવેશેલા યોદ્ધાઓના સંકલ્પ અને પરાક્રમની ઘોષણા કરે છે।
