Educational Q&A

The verse frames war as moral reckoning: grave wrongdoing is not merely remembered but ‘balanced’ through consequences. It highlights accountability—sins create bonds (anubandha) that can implicate allies and kin, and the speaker vows to settle that moral debt.

In the Bhīṣma Parva war-setting, a vow is voiced to kill an opponent along with his supporters and relatives, explicitly as repayment for earlier misdeeds. The line intensifies the atmosphere of inevitable retaliation and the settling of past offenses on the battlefield.
