अपन क्रात छा अं सप्तपञ्चाशत्तमो<्ध्याय: उत्तंकका सौदाससे उनकी 4 कक णएडल माँगना और सौदासके कहनेसे रानी मदयन्तीके पास जाना वैशम्पायन उवाच सतं दृष्टवा तथाभूतं राजानं घोरदर्शनम् । दीर्घश्मश्रुधरं नूणां शोणितेन समुक्षितम्
vaiśampāyana uvāca | sataṃ dṛṣṭvā tathābhūtaṃ rājānaṃ ghoradarśanam | dīrghaśmaśrudharaṃ nūnaṃ śoṇitena samukṣitam ||
વૈશંપાયન બોલ્યા—જનમેજય! રાજાને એ ભયાનક સ્થિતિમાં જોઈને—દેખાવમાં અતિ ભયંકર, લાંબી મૂછ-દાઢી ધરાવતો અને નિશ્ચિત જ રક્તથી લિપ્ત—સ્પષ્ટ થયું કે શાપ, હિંસા અને સંયમભંગથી ગ્રસ્ત થઈ નૃપતિ અધર્મની ભયાવહ અવસ્થામાં પડી ગયો છે।
