अहिंसा परमो धर्मो हिंसा चाधर्मलक्षणा । प्रकाशलक्षणा देवा मनुष्या: कर्मलक्षणा:
ahiṃsā paramo dharmo hiṃsā cādharmalakṣaṇā | prakāśalakṣaṇā devā manuṣyāḥ karmalakṣaṇāḥ ||
વાયુએ કહ્યું—હવે હું સર્વ પ્રાણીઓના નિશ્ચિત કર્તવ્યોના લક્ષણો વર્ણવું છું. અહિંસા પરમ ધર્મ છે; હિંસા અધર્મનું ચિહ્ન છે. દેવતાઓ પ્રકાશથી ઓળખાય છે અને મનુષ્યો કર્મથી—વિશેષ કરીને યજ્ઞાદિ વિધિકર્મોથી।
