Āśvamedhika-parva Adhyāya 1 — Yudhiṣṭhira’s Lament by the Gaṅgā and Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Counsel
अथ नेच्छसि राजानं कुन्तीपुत्रं युधिष्ठिरम् । मेढीभूत: स्वयं राज्यं प्रतिगृह्नीष्व पार्थिव
atha necchasi rājānaṃ kuntīputraṃ yudhiṣṭhiram | meḍhībhūtaḥ svayaṃ rājyaṃ pratigṛhṇīṣva pārthiva ||
વૈશંપાયન બોલ્યા—નરેશ્વર! જો તમે કુંતીપુત્ર યુધિષ્ઠિરને રાજા બનાવવા ઇચ્છતા ન હો, તો તમે જ મેઢી (ભાર વહન કરનાર કેન્દ્રસ્તંભ) બની રાજ્ય સ્વીકારો અને તેનો સર્વ ભાર પોતે જ ઉઠાવો।
