Mahabharata — Anushasana Parva, Shloka 24
प्रदाता सर्वलोकानां विश्व चाप्युच्यते महत् । ज्येष्ठभूतं वदन्त्येनं ब्राह्यणा ऋषयो5परे
pradātā sarvalokānāṁ viśva cāpy ucyate mahat | jyeṣṭhabhūtaṁ vadanty enaṁ brāhmaṇā ṛṣayo 'pare ||
તે સર્વ લોકોના દાતા છે—જીવોને તેમની ઇચ્છિત વસ્તુ આપનાર. આ મહાન વિશ્વ પણ તેમનું જ સ્વરૂપ કહેવાય છે. તેથી બ્રાહ્મણો અને અન્ય ઋષિઓ તેમને જ્યેષ્ઠ—આદિ અને અગ્ર—કહે છે.
