Adhyāya 142: Cyavana, the Devas’ Arrogance, and Vāyu’s Counsel on Protecting Brāhmaṇas
महान् यशस्वी राजर्षि सहस्नचित्य ब्राह्मणके लिये अपने प्यारे प्राणोंकी बलि देकर श्रेष्ठ लोकोंमें गये हैं ।।
bhīṣma uvāca | sarvakāmaiḥ samāpūrṇaṃ dattvā veśma hiraṇmayam | maudgalyāya gataḥ svargaṃ śatadyumno mahīpatiḥ ||
ભીષ્મે કહ્યું—મહીપતિ શતદ્યુમ્ને બ્રાહ્મણ મૌદગલ્યને સર્વ કામનાઓથી પરિપૂર્ણ સુવર્ણમય ગૃહ દાન આપીને સ્વર્ગ પ્રાપ્ત કર્યો. આ પ્રસંગ દર્શાવે છે કે યોગ્ય પાત્રને નિષ્કામ અને સંપૂર્ણ દાન આપવું રાજધર્મ છે; તેનાથી શ્રેષ્ઠ લોકોની પ્રાપ્તિ થાય છે.
