Dāna-Śreṣṭhatā: On the Superiority of Giving
Maitreya–Vyāsa Exemplum
शुभानां नाभिजानामि कृतानां कर्मणां फलम् | माता च पूजिता वृद्धा ब्राह्मणश्वार्चितो मया
śubhānāṃ nābhijānāmi kṛtānāṃ karmaṇāṃ phalam | mātā ca pūjitā vṛddhā brāhmaṇaś cārcito mayā ||
મેં કરેલા શુભ કર્મોનું ફળ મને પ્રત્યક્ષ અનુભવાયું નથી. પરંતુ મેં મારી વૃદ્ધ માતાની સેવા-પૂજા કરી હતી અને એક વખત ઘેર આવેલા બ્રાહ્મણ અતિથિનું પણ વિધિપૂર્વક સત્કાર કર્યો હતો. હે બ્રાહ્મણ! એ પુણ્યના પ્રભાવથી આજ સુધી મારી પૂર્વજન્મની સ્મૃતિ છૂટી નથી।
