Dāna-Śreṣṭhatā: On the Superiority of Giving
Maitreya–Vyāsa Exemplum
अहमासं मनुष्यो वै शूद्रो बहुधन: प्रभो । अब्रद्याण्यो नृशंसश्न कदर्यो वृद्धिजीवन:
aham āsaṁ manuṣyo vai śūdro bahu-dhanaḥ prabho | abrāhmaṇyo nṛśaṁsaś ca kadaryo vṛddhi-jīvanaḥ prabho ||
કીટ બોલ્યો— પ્રભુ! પૂર્વજન્મમાં હું મનુષ્ય હતો—અને તે પણ બહુ ધનવાન શૂદ્ર. બ્રાહ્મણો પ્રત્યે મારા મનમાં આદરભાવ ન હતો. હું કંજુષ, ક્રૂર, નિર્દય અને વ્યાજખોરીથી જીવતો હતો. એવા આચરણના કારણે જ હું આ નીચ અવસ્થામાં પડ્યો છું.
