न च शक्तो5भविष्यद् वै पातने तस्य तेजसा । पृथ्वीनाथ! यदि नहुष भूगुको देख लेते तो उनके तेजसे प्रतिहत होकर वे उन्हें स्वर्गसे नीचे गिरानेमें समर्थ न होते
na ca śakto 'bhaviṣyad vai pātane tasya tejasā | pṛthvīnātha yadi nahuṣa bhṛguko naiva dadarśa ha ||
ભીષ્મ બોલ્યા—હે પૃથ્વીનાથ! જો નહુષે ભૃગુને ન જોયા હોત, તો ભૃગુના તેજથી પ્રતિહત થઈ તે તેને સ્વર્ગથી નીચે પાડી શક્યો ન હોત. સાચા તપનું તેજ અહંકાર અને અન્યાયી બળને રોકે છે અને અધર્મની શક્તિને નિષ્ફળ બનાવી ધર્મનું રક્ષણ કરે છે.
