Lord Vishnu (speaking to Garuda)

Concept: Graha-tithi sambandha: tithis are presided over by specific grahas; śubhatva depends on the presiding influence.

Vedantic Theme: Interdependence of microcosm and macrocosm within karma-kāṇḍa; disciplined action aligned to order supports sattva.

Application: For initiating tasks/rites, consult tithi-graha rulership: 3rd (Mars), 4th (Saturn), 5th (Jupiter auspicious), 6th (Mars/Venus). Use this to choose favorable days for intended outcomes.

Primary Rasa: adbhuta

Secondary Rasa: shanta

Type: jyotiṣa-ritual framework (pañcāṅga)

FAQs

This verse links specific tithis with planetary influences, indicating that ritual timing is evaluated through Jyotiṣa-based rulership to judge auspiciousness.

Indirectly: by emphasizing correct timing for rites, it supports the broader Garuda Purana framework where properly performed observances aid dharma and the post-death journey.

When choosing dates for vows or ceremonies, consult the tithi and its traditional planetary association; the verse specifically calls the fifth tithi auspicious under Jupiter.
