Lord Viṣṇu (in instruction to Garuḍa, per the common dialogue frame of the Garuḍa Purāṇa)

Concept: Ritual efficacy depends on correct placement (dik-nyāsa/saṃsthāpanā) and śāstra-guided purity symbols (śaṅkha).

Vedantic Theme: Outer order supports inner order; disciplined karma (niyata-karma) becomes a vehicle for sattva and concentration.

Application: When performing any disciplined practice, set up tools deliberately and consistently; use simple purity cues (cleanliness, order, minimalism) to support focus.

Primary Rasa: shanta

Type: direction within ritual pavilion

FAQs

This verse treats direction (dik) as ritually meaningful: arranging homa materials in the vāyavya quarter aligns the rite with the prescribed sacred orientation associated with Vāyu, ensuring the procedure follows śāstric order.

This specific verse is not about the soul’s journey; it focuses on correct ritual arrangement for homa, which in the broader Purāṇic framework supports purification and proper performance of rites connected with dharma.

When performing a homa or assisting one, follow a trained priest’s layout: keep materials and implements व्यवस्थित (well‑ordered), respect prescribed directions, and use items (like śvetāḥ śaṅkhāḥ) only when your tradition’s ritual manuals explicitly require them.
