Prahlāda Rejects Demonic Diplomacy and Proclaims Navadhā Bhakti

सन्ति ह्यसाधवो लोके दुर्मैत्राश्छद्मवेषिण: । तेषामुदेत्यघं काले रोग: पातकिनामिव ॥ २७ ॥

જગતમાં સાધુનો વેશ ધારણ કરનારા અનેક કપટી મિત્રો હોય છે. જેમ પાપીઓના શરીરમાં સમય જતાં રોગ પ્રગટ થાય છે, તેમ તેમનું પાપ પણ પ્રગટ થઈ જાય છે.

Being anxious about the education of his boy Prahlāda, Hiraṇyakaśipu was very much dissatisfied. When Prahlāda began teaching about devotional service, Hiraṇyakaśipu immediately regarded the teachers as his enemies in the garb of friends. In this verse the words rogaḥ pātakinām iva refer to disease, which is the most sinful and miserable of the conditions of material life ( janma-mṛtyu-jarā-vyādhi ). Disease is the symptom of the body of a sinful person. The smṛti-śāstras say:

This verse warns that the world contains wicked, disguised people who pose as friends, and that their wrongdoing inevitably manifests and brings suffering in due course.

While instructing the sons of demons, Prahlāda cautions them about deceptive association and the certainty of karmic reaction, urging them toward discernment and dharmic living.

Be discerning about influences and relationships, avoid hypocrisy (in self and others), and remember that unethical actions eventually produce consequences—so choose integrity and sādhusaṅga.
