कलौ धर्मसुलभता — व्यासोपाख्यानम् एवं संकीर्तन-प्रधानता
तत् सर्वं श्रोतुम् इच्छामो न चेद् गुह्यं महामुने तत् कथ्यतां ततो हृत्स्थं पृच्छामस् त्वां प्रयोजनम्
tat sarvaṃ śrotum icchāmo na ced guhyaṃ mahāmune tat kathyatāṃ tato hṛtsthaṃ pṛcchāmas tvāṃ prayojanam
Nous désirons entendre tout cela, ô grand sage, si ce n’est pas un secret. Déclare-le donc : nous t’interrogeons sur le dessein qui demeure dans notre cœur.
Maitreya (addressing Sage Parāśara)
It establishes that the teaching is meant for the welfare of listeners in the age of decline, and that the sage’s instruction is a deliberate, authorized revelation rather than speculation.
This verse introduces the disciple’s concern for the inner aim of the discourse, setting up Parāśara’s forthcoming explanation of Kali Yuga’s markers and the practical spiritual orientation they demand.
Even when the verse is framed as a request, the broader context of the Vishnu Purana is that instruction about the ages ultimately directs the listener toward Vishnu as the supreme refuge and sustaining order behind cosmic cycles.
