सर्गभेदाः — अविद्या, स्रोतोभेदाः, नव सर्गाः, देवासुरादिसृष्टिः, वेद-यज्ञप्रादुर्भावः
सिसृक्षुर् अन्यदेहस्थः प्रीतिम् आप ततः सुराः सत्त्वोद्रिक्ताः समुद्भूता मुखतो ब्रह्मणो द्विज
sisṛkṣur anyadehasthaḥ prītim āpa tataḥ surāḥ sattvodriktāḥ samudbhūtā mukhato brahmaṇo dvija
Puis, désireux de créer tout en demeurant dans un autre corps, Brahmā éprouva la satisfaction; et de sa bouche, ô deux-fois-né, surgirent les dieux, chez qui le sattva prédominait.
Sage Parāśara (speaking to Maitreya)
It signals a sattva-dominant origin: the mouth symbolizes purity, speech, and illumination, aligning the devas with harmony and cosmic governance.
By stating the devas are “sattvodriktāḥ,” Parāśara frames created beings as differentiated by guṇa predominance, a key cosmological principle used throughout the Purāṇa.
Even when Brahmā is described as producing beings, the Vishnu Purana’s theology treats Brahmā as an instrument of secondary creation within the higher sovereignty of Viṣṇu as Supreme Reality.
