Shiva Purana — Vayaviya Samhita, Shloka 62

The Supreme Lord as the Uncaused Cause

FAQs

It warns that mere verbal victory and constant disputation do not confer liberation; Shaiva teaching emphasizes inner purification and turning toward Pati (Shiva) rather than being bound by prideful argument.

Linga-worship centers on reverence, discipline, and devotion; the verse contrasts that spirit with divisive polemics, implying that true approach to Saguna Shiva is through bhakti and right conduct, not combative speech.

Adopt restraint of speech and steadiness of mind, and replace quarrelsome talk with japa—especially Panchakshara ("Om Namaḥ Śivāya")—supported by simple Shaiva observances like bhasma and focused meditation.
