द्वादशज्योतिर्लिङ्गावतारकथनम्
Account of the Twelve Jyotirliṅga Manifestations
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Jyotirlinga: Rāmeśvara
Sthala Purana: The verse highlights a specific upacāra: abhiṣeka with Gaṅgā-jala to the Rāmeśvara liṅga, promising jīvanmukti—liberation while embodied—through sincere devotion.
Significance: Gaṅgā-jala abhiṣeka and sadbhakti are presented as direct means to purification and grace culminating in jīvanmukti.
Mantra: नमः शिवाय (namaḥ śivāya)
Type: panchakshara
Role: liberating
It teaches that simple, pure worship—especially Gaṅgā-jala abhiṣeka offered with sadbhakti—can confer jīvanmukti, emphasizing Śiva’s grace and the primacy of devotion over mere complexity of ritual.
Rāmeśvara is approached as Saguna Śiva through the Liṅga; bathing (snāpana/abhiṣeka) is a direct devotional service to the manifest symbol of Pati (Śiva), through which the devotee’s bondage (pāśa) is loosened by grace.
Perform Gaṅgā-jala abhiṣeka to the Śiva Liṅga of Rāmeśvara with sincere devotion; accompany it with focused remembrance of Śiva (e.g., japa of “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) as an inner offering.
