सुन्दरकाण्डे अष्टपञ्चाशः सर्गः
हनुमद्वृत्तान्तकथनम्, सीताभिज्ञान-प्रदानम्, लङ्कादाह-वर्णनम्
उक्तश्च मधुरां वाणीं तया स मदनार्दितः।।।।सीतया तव किं कार्यं महेन्द्रसमविक्रमः।
uktaś ca madhurāṃ vāṇīṃ tayā sa madanārditaḥ | sītayā tava kiṃ kāryaṃ mahendrasamavikramaḥ ||
Et d’une voix douce, elle lui parla—bien qu’il fût tourmenté par le désir—: «Toi dont la vaillance égale celle de Mahendra, quel besoin as-tu de Sītā ?»
"She spoke sweetly to Ravana, who was tormented by the god of love saying, 'For what purpose do you desire Sita? You are equal to Mahendra in might'.
Dharma urges mastery over desire; greatness in strength is incomplete without restraint and right intention.
Mandodarī attempts to dissuade Rāvaṇa by appealing to his status and power, questioning his fixation on Sītā.
