सुन्दरकाण्डे अष्टपञ्चाशः सर्गः
हनुमद्वृत्तान्तकथनम्, सीताभिज्ञान-प्रदानम्, लङ्कादाह-वर्णनम्
ततोऽहं परमोद्विग्नः स्वं रूपं प्रत्यसंहरम्।अहं तु शिंशुपावृक्षे पक्षीव गहने स्थितः।।।।
tato 'haṃ paramodvignaḥ svaṃ rūpaṃ pratyasaṃharam |
ahaṃ tu śiṃśupāvṛkṣe pakṣīva gahane sthitaḥ ||
Alors, saisi d’une vive inquiétude, je retirai ma propre forme, me faisant tout petit, et demeurai caché dans l’épais feuillage du śiṃśupā, tel un oiseau au cœur du fourré.
"I was scared and contracted my body size and stood on the Simsupa tree like a bird in the sky.
Dharma-guided courage is not recklessness: Hanumān uses discretion and self-control to protect the larger righteous goal—Sītā’s discovery and safe communication.
Hearing ominous sounds, Hanumān hides more carefully by shrinking his body and blending into the tree’s cover.
Practical wisdom (nīti) and restraint—Hanumān adapts instantly to danger without losing focus.
