Hanuman’s Offer of Rescue and Sita’s Dharmic Refusal
हरिः पर्वतसङ्काशस्ताम्रवक्त्रो महाबलः।वज्रदंष्ट्रनखो भीमो वैदेहीमिदमब्रवीत्।।।।
hariḥ parvatasaṅkāśas tāmravaktro mahābalaḥ | vajradaṃṣṭranakho bhīmo vaidehīm idam abravīt ||
Dans cette forme redoutable, pareille à une montagne—au visage rouge, d’une force immense, aux crocs et aux ongles comme le diamant—le vānara adressa ces paroles à Vaidehī.
Resembling a mountain in size, with a red face, with teeth and nails strong like diamond, the vanara in dreadful form said to Vaidehi:
Legitimate force is contextual and protective: Hanumān’s terrifying capability is framed as a tool against adharma, not against the innocent.
The narration describes Hanumān’s formidable appearance immediately before he addresses Sītā to reassure her of his capacity.
