Lakshmana’s Wrath and the Summoning of Sugriva
'Rama and Lakshmana, both the brothers venerable and true to their promise, have conferred on you sovereignty and have extended friendship.'
Gratitude and fidelity to alliances are part of dharma: since Rāma enabled Sugrīva’s kingship, Sugrīva is morally bound to honor his promise and friendship in return.
Sugrīva’s ministers remind him of Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa’s truthfulness and the debt Sugrīva owes them for restoring his rule.
Satya (truth-steadfastness) in Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa, and the implied virtue expected of Sugrīva: kṛtajñatā (thankful loyalty).
