Autumn’s Onset: Rama’s Lament and Lakshmana Sent to Sugriva
'O lord of the human race! O worthy hero! when you are the protector, Janaki cannot be retained by any one easily just as burning fire after it reaches its full height cannot be retained by any one.'
Dharma as protection and rightful guardianship: the righteous protector does not abandon responsibility, and wrongdoers cannot securely possess what is protected by dharma.
Rama is being reassured amid anxiety about Sita’s captivity; the speaker strengthens Rama’s resolve by asserting Sita’s inviolability under Rama’s righteous protection.
Confidence rooted in dharma—courage and certainty that righteousness ultimately prevails.
