Tārā’s Lament over Vāli
'O venerable hero, born in a pure and noble family, you are a lover of battles. Now you have left me an orphan.
The verse reflects the dharmic expectation of protection within family life—when the protector falls, dependents face vulnerability, revealing the social-ethical weight of kingship and household duty.
Tārā addresses the dying Vāli as her protector, grieving that his death leaves her without support.
Vāli’s noble birth and honor-bestowing stature are affirmed, even amid lament.
