Virādha-saṃvādaḥ — Encounter with Virādha in the Daṇḍakāraṇya
Aranya Kanda, Sarga 2
शरेण निहतस्याद्य मया क्रुद्धेन रक्षसः।विराधस्य गतासोर्हि मही पास्यति शोणितम्।।।।
śareṇa nihatasyādya mayā kruddhena rakṣasaḥ |
virādhasya gatāsor hi mahī pāsyati śoṇitam ||3.2.24||
Aujourd’hui, frappé par ma flèche dans ma colère, ce rākṣasa Virādha—sa vie éteinte—fera boire son sang à la terre.
The earth will drink the blood of Viradha with his life gone, slain by my angry arrow.
Kṣātra-dharma (warrior duty): force is justified when used to stop adharma—here, to protect Sītā and punish violent wrongdoing.
Lakshmana, enraged by Sita’s abduction, declares his intent to kill Viradha immediately.
Courage and protective resolve: Lakshmana channels anger into decisive action for justice.
