L’homme qui se tient sur un seul pied durant mille yuga et celui qui se baigne dans la Gaṅgā pendant un mois—tous deux obtiennent un fruit spirituel égal.
Suta (narrator) conveying the tirtha-mahatmya teaching in the Narada Purana
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: adbhuta
Secondary Rasa: bhakti
It elevates Gaṅgā-snana as a powerful tirtha-practice, stating that sustained bathing in the Gaṅgā can yield merit comparable to extreme austerity, emphasizing accessible purification through sacred geography and disciplined observance.
By prioritizing a devotional, faith-based practice (reverent bathing in Gaṅgā as a sacred tirtha) over severe self-mortification, it supports the Purāṇic ideal that sincere, steady observances performed with श्रद्धा (śraddhā) can lead to great spiritual benefit.
It highlights ritual discipline (kalpa-oriented conduct) through the regulated practice of स्नान (snāna) over a fixed period (one month), implying vrata-like observance and purity rules associated with tirtha rituals.
