Kārtika-Māhātmya
The Greatness of Kārtika
Narada (asking a king, addressed as 'Pṛthivīpati')
Vrata: Cāturmāsya-vrata
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: bhakti
It emphasizes that a vow is not considered spiritually complete merely by observance; it must be concluded with the proper udyāpana (formal completion rite) so the vrata yields its intended dharmic and devotional fruit.
By seeking the correct method to complete Cāturmāsya, the verse frames devotion as disciplined practice—bhakti expressed through niyama (vowed restraint), reverence for ritual order, and intentional completion offered with faith.
It highlights Kalpa (ritual procedure) in practice—specifically vrata-vidhi and udyāpana rules—showing the importance of correct ceremonial sequencing and completion in dharma observances.
