Adhyaya 71 — The King’s Remorse and the Sage’s Counsel on the Necessity of a Wife

The verse highlights how fear of rivalry (sapatnī-bhāva) breeds secrecy and injustice; domestic dharma collapses when relationships are managed through concealment rather than truth.
Carita—ethical narrative illustrating doṣa (fault) and its later phala (result).
The ‘inner palace’ can signify the inner mind where jealousy hides uncomfortable truths; what is repressed (guptā) later returns as disturbance in affection and speech.
