Tantipāla
यो मे न दद्यादुच्छिष्टं न च पादौ प्रधावयेत् । प्रीणेरंस्तेन वासेन गन्धर्वा: पतयो मम,जो मुझे जूँठा अन्न नहीं देता और मुझसे अपने पैर नहीं धुलवाता, उसके उस व्यवहारसे मेरे पति गन्धर्वलोग प्रसन्न रहते हैं
yo me na dadyād ucchiṣṭaṁ na ca pādau pradhāvayet | prīṇeran tena vāsena gandharvāḥ patayo mama ||
Vaiśampāyana dit : «Quiconque ne m’offre pas de nourriture restante et ne me fait pas laver ses pieds—par une telle conduite, mes époux Gandharvas sont satisfaits.»
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Proper conduct includes not degrading another person through impure leftovers or servile treatment; respectful restraint is portrayed as dharmic and worthy of approval.
A speaker explains a behavioral rule: those who neither give her leftover food nor make her wash their feet act in a way that pleases her Gandharva husbands, implying she is under their regard and protection.
