Virāṭa-parva Adhyāya 54 — Missile-Exchange and Tactical Redirection

यह देख कर्णने भी अर्जुनपर मेघकी भाँति बहुत-से बाणोंकी झड़ी लगा दी। इसी प्रकार किरीटमाली अर्जुनने भी अपने तीखे सायकोंसे कर्णको ढँक दिया ।।
tayoḥ sutīkṣṇān sṛjatoḥ śaraughān mahāśaraughāstravivardhane raṇe | rathe vilagnāv iva candrasūryau ghanāntareṇānudadarśa lokaḥ ||
Vaiśampāyana dit : Tandis que Karṇa et Arjuna, ceint de diadème, se déversaient l’un sur l’autre des torrents de flèches acérées comme des rasoirs, la bataille enfla en un grand tournoi d’armes de jet et de volées serrées. Sur ce champ effroyable, on vit les deux héros sur leurs chars luire au cœur même de la masse des traits, tels le soleil et la lune scintillant à travers un rempart de nuages.
