Virāṭa-parva, Adhyāya 12 — Concealed Service in Matsya and Bhīma’s Arena Victory
स वै हयानैक्षत तांस्ततस्तत: समीक्षमाणं स ददर्श मत्स्यराट् । ततोअब्रवीत् ताननुगान् नरेश्वर: कुतो5यमायाति नरो5मरोपम:,आते ही उन्होंने इधर-उधर घूमकर घोड़ोंको देखना प्रारम्भ किया। इस प्रकार उन अश्वोंका निरीक्षण करते समय उन्हें मत्स्यराज विराटने देखा। तब वे नरेश वहाँ बैठे हुए अनुचरोंसे बोले--“पता तो लगाओ, यह देवोपम पुरुष कहाँसे आ रहा है? यह बिना कहे- सुने स्वयं मेरे घोड़ोंको बहुत ध्यानसे देख रहा है; अत: यह अवश्य घोड़ोंको पहचाननेवाला और अअभश्वविद्याका विद्वान् होगा। इसलिये इसे शीघ्र मेरे समीप ले आओ। यह वीर देवताओंकी भाँति सुशोभित हो रहा है”
sa vai hayān aikṣata tāṁs tatas tataḥ samīkṣamāṇaṁ sa dadarśa matsyarāṭ | tato 'bravīt tān anugān nareśvaraḥ kuto 'yam āyāti naro 'maropamaḥ |
Il se mit à considérer les chevaux, promenant son regard de l’un à l’autre. Tandis qu’il les examinait avec soin, le roi des Matsyas, Virāṭa, l’aperçut. Alors le seigneur des hommes dit à ses serviteurs : « Découvrez d’où vient cet homme semblable à un dieu. Sans qu’on lui demande rien et sans rien demander, il inspecte mes chevaux avec une grande attention ; assurément il connaît les chevaux et maîtrise la science de l’art équestre. Amenez-le sur-le-champ devant moi : ce héros rayonne comme un des dieux. »
