कण्वोपदेशः—नश्वरबलविवेकः तथा मातलिगुणकेश्याः आख्यानारम्भः
Kaṇva’s Counsel on Impermanent Power; Opening of the Mātali–Guṇakeśī Narrative
एवमुक्त: स राजा तु पुन: पप्रच्छ तान् द्विजान् | क्व तौ वीरौ क्वजन्मानौ किंकर्माणीौ च कौ च तौ,“उनके ऐसा कहनेपर राजाने पुनः उन ब्राह्मणोंसे पूछा--*वे दोनों वीर कहाँ हैं? उनका जन्म किस स्थानमें हुआ है? उनके कर्म कौन-कौन-से हैं और उनके नाम क्या हैं?
evam uktaḥ sa rājā tu punaḥ papraccha tān dvijān | kva tau vīrau kva janmānau kiṃkarmāṇī ca kau ca tau ||
Ainsi interpellé, le roi questionna de nouveau ces brahmanes : « Où sont à présent ces deux héros ? En quel lieu sont-ils nés ? Quelles sont leurs œuvres et leurs charges, et quels sont leurs noms ? »
