अध्याय ८ — शल्यस्य सत्कारः, वरदानं, पाण्डवसमागमश्च (Śalya’s Reception, the Boon, and Meeting the Pāṇḍavas)
विचित्राभरणा: सर्वे विचित्ररथवाहना: । विचित्रस्रग्धरा: सर्वे विचित्राम्बर भूषणा:
vaicitrābharaṇāḥ sarve vaicitrarathavāhanāḥ | vaicitrasragdharāḥ sarve vaicitrāmbarabhūṣaṇāḥ ||
Vaiśampāyana dit : Tous portaient des parures splendides et bigarrées ; leurs chars de guerre et leurs montures étaient de types variés, saisissants à voir. Tous arboraient des guirlandes aux mille couleurs, et tous étaient ornés de vêtements et d’atours remarquables. La scène déploie la pompe guerrière d’une immense armée — éclat extérieur et mise en ordre disciplinée, signes d’une préparation au combat, tout en rappelant, en sourdine, que cette magnificence n’est que la surface des choix moraux graves qui vont bientôt se présenter.
