Bhishma’s Account of Parashurama’s Challenge and the March to Kurukshetra
दृष्टवा मां तूर्णमायान्तं दंशितं स्यन्दने स्थितम् । अकरोद् रथमत्यर्थ राम: सज्जं प्रतापवान्,मुझे रथपर बैठकर कवच धारण किये शीघ्रता-पूर्वक आते देख प्रतापी परशुरामजीने अपने रथको अत्यन्त सुसज्जित किया
dṛṣṭvā māṃ tūṛṇam āyāntaṃ daṃśitaṃ syandane sthitam | akarod ratham atyarthaṃ rāmaḥ sajjaṃ pratāpavān ||
Bhīṣma dit : Me voyant accourir avec hâte—cuirassé et debout sur mon char—le puissant et vaillant Rāma (Paraśurāma) fit préparer son propre char avec le plus grand soin pour le combat.
भीष्म उवाच
A worthy adversary should be met with equal preparedness and seriousness. The verse highlights martial ethics: respect for the opponent and adherence to kṣatriya-dharma through disciplined readiness rather than rashness.
Bhīṣma narrates that as he advanced quickly on his chariot, fully armoured, Paraśurāma saw him and promptly had his own chariot thoroughly readied—signaling the imminent confrontation between two formidable warriors.
