Bhishma’s Account of Parashurama’s Challenge and the March to Kurukshetra

Even in warfare, mastery is shown not merely by striking but by restraint and control—neutralizing force with skill, avoiding needless devastation, and maintaining honor in combat.
Bhīṣma recounts the duel with Paraśurāma: each launches divine weapons, and each successfully counters the other’s missiles, showing parity in astravidyā (knowledge of weapon-mantras) and formidable personal energy.
