Amba–Rama–Bhishma Dialogue on Vow and Refuge
यच्चापि कत्थसे राम बहुश: परिषत्सु वै । निर्जिता: क्षत्रिया लोके मयैकेनेति तच्छूणु
yaccāpi katthase rāma bahuśaḥ pariṣatsu vai | nirjitāḥ kṣatriyā loke mayaikene iti tac chṛṇu ||
Et toi, Rāma, quant à ce dont tu te vantes si souvent dans les assemblées bondées—disant : « Moi seul ai vaincu tous les kṣatriya du monde »—écoute maintenant la réponse à cette prétention.
राम उवाच
The verse critiques self-glorifying speech in public forums and insists that claims of greatness must be answered with truth and accountability; ethical stature is shown through restraint and veracity, not repeated boasting.
The speaker addresses Rama directly, referring to Rama’s repeated public claim that he single-handedly defeated all the kṣatriyas of the world, and announces that he will now give a response/refutation to that boast.
