अम्बा तमब्रवीद् राजन्ननड्रशरपीडिता । नैवं वद महीपाल नैतदेवं कथंचन,राजन! यह सुनकर कामदेवके बाणोंसे पीड़ित हुई अम्बा शाल्वराजसे बोली --'भूपाल! तुम किसी तरह भी ऐसी बात मुहसे न निकालो। शत्रुसूदन! मैं भीष्मके साथ प्रसन्नतापूर्वक नहीं गयी थी। उन्होंने समस्त राजाओंको खदेड़कर बलपूर्वक मेरा अपहरण किया था और मैं रोती हुई ही उनके साथ गयी थी
ambā tam abravīd rājann anaṅgaśara-pīḍitā | naivaṁ vada mahīpāla naitad evaṁ kathaṁcana ||
Amba, tourmentée par les flèches du dieu de l’amour sans corps, lui dit : «Ô roi, ne parle pas ainsi. Ô maître de la terre, ce n’est pas cela — nullement. Je ne suis pas allée avec Bhīṣma de mon plein gré ni dans la joie ; après avoir mis en fuite les rois assemblés, il m’a saisie de force, et je ne l’ai suivi qu’en pleurant.»
