Udyoga Parva, Adhyāya 13: Śacī’s Delay, Deva-Counsel, and Indra’s Purification
अकम्पन्नहुषं स्थानाद् दृष्टवा बलनिषूदन: । तेजोघ्नं सर्वभूतानां वरदानाच्च दुःसहम्,परंतु बल नामक दानवका नाश करनेवाले इन्द्र जब अपना स्थान ग्रहण करनेके लिये स्वर्गलोकमें आये, तब उन्होंने देखा--नहुष देवताओंके वरदानसे अपनी दृष्टिमात्रसे समस्त प्राणियोंके तेजको नष्ट करनेमें समर्थ और दुःसह हो गया है। यह देखकर वे काँप उठे
akampan nahuṣaṁ sthānād dṛṣṭvā balanīṣūdanaḥ | tejoghnam sarvabhūtānāṁ varadānāc ca duḥsaham ||
Indra, le pourfendeur du démon Bala, revint au ciel pour reprendre son siège. Là, il vit Nahusha—rendu insupportable par les dons des dieux et capable, d’un simple regard, d’éteindre l’éclat et la vigueur de tous les êtres vivants—; à cette vue, Indra fut saisi de frayeur.
