Svargārohaṇa-parva Adhyāya 5 — Karmaphala-Nirdeśa and Phalāśruti (कर्मफलनिर्देशः फलश्रुतिश्च)

नित्यसिद्ध मोक्षस्वरूप भगवान्‌ कृष्णद्वैपायनने धर्मकी कामनासे इस महाभारतसंदर्भकी रचना की है ।।

vaiśampāyana uvāca |

ṣaṣṭiṁ śata-sahasrāṇi cakārānyāṁ sa saṁhitām |

triṁśac-chata-sahasrāṇi deva-loke pratiṣṭhitam |

Vaiśampāyana dit : «Le bienheureux Kṛṣṇa Dvaipāyana (Vyāsa), dont la nature est le mokṣa toujours accompli, composa cette trame du Mahābhārata par désir du dharma. D’abord, il produisit une saṃhitā de six millions de ślokas ; parmi eux, trois millions furent établis et se répandirent dans le monde des dieux. (D’autres recensions circulaient chez les Pitṛs et les Yakṣas, tandis qu’une version de cent mille vers se diffusa parmi les hommes.)»
