Strī Parva 1: Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Lament and Saṃjaya’s Consolation
The verse highlights how violent and unethical choices in war culminate in inevitable suffering and reversal; even those who once felt secure in power must face the moral and emotional consequences when adharma bears fruit.
Dhṛtarāṣṭra receives news of two crushing events for the Kauravas: Duḥśāsana has been slain, and Karṇa has met a disastrous end/defeat. This sets the tone for his grief and the unfolding lamentation in the Strī Parva.
