Royal Dharma: Vigilance, Just Punishment, Protection of the Vulnerable
भीष्म उवाच स एवमुक्तो मान्धाता तेनोतथ्येन भारत । कृतवानविशड्कश्न एक: प्राप च मेदिनीम्
bhīṣma uvāca | sa evam ukto māndhātā tenotathyena bhārata | kṛtavān aviśaṅkaḥ sa ekaḥ prāpa ca medinīm |
Bhīṣma dit : «Ô descendant de Bharata, ainsi instruit par Utathya, le roi Māndhātā exécuta son ordre sans la moindre hésitation ; et, lui seul, obtint la souveraineté sur la terre entière.»
भीष्म उवाच
When a ruler receives sound guidance from a qualified sage, decisive and doubt-free execution of that counsel leads to stability and success in governance; hesitation and suspicion undermine royal duty.
Bhishma recounts that Māndhātā, after being instructed by the sage Utathya, followed the instruction without misgiving and thereby achieved undisputed, single-sovereign dominion over the earth.
