अग्निना तामसं दुर्ग नौभिराप्यं च गम्यते । राजदुर्गावतरणे नोपायं पण्डिता विदु:,अन्धकारमय दुर्गको अग्निके प्रकाशसे तथा जल-दुर्गको नौकाओंद्वारा पार किया जा सकता है; परंतु राजारूपी दुर्गसे पार होनेके लिये विद्वान्‌ पुरुष भी कोई उपाय नहीं जानते हैं

agninā tāmasaṃ durgaṃ naubhir āpyaṃ ca gamyate | rājadurgāvataraṇe nopāyaṃ paṇḍitā viduḥ ||

Bhishma dit : «Une forteresse de ténèbres se vainc par le feu, et une forteresse d’eau se franchit en barques. Mais lorsqu’il s’agit de descendre de—ou d’échapper à—la ‘forteresse’ qu’est la puissance d’un roi, même les savants ne connaissent aucun moyen certain.»
