Chapter 81: Trust, Allies, and the Qualifications of the King’s Artha-Secretary (अर्थसचिव)

यस्तस्यार्थों न रोचेत न तं तस्य प्रकाशयेत्‌ । धर्माधर्मेण राजानश्नरन्ति विजिगीषव:

yastasyārtho na roceta na taṁ tasya prakāśayet | dharmādharmena rājānaḥ caranti vijigīṣavaḥ ||

Bhishma dit : Si une proposition ou un dessein ne plaît pas à cet homme de droiture, il ne faut pas le lui dévoiler. Car les rois avides de conquête n’avancent pas par une seule voie : tantôt ils suivent le dharma, tantôt l’adharma. Ainsi, un conseiller véritablement établi dans le dharma — sans parti pris et ne servant pas deux camps pour salaire — ne doit être approché qu’avec des objectifs capables de tenir sous la lumière de la justice.
