Educational Q&A

A righteous king upholds dharma by honoring learning and virtue: he seeks auspicious blessings from disciplined Vedic scholars and supports them through generous, properly performed gifts (dāna) given with respect and due ritual.

Vaiśampāyana narrates that Yudhiṣṭhira arranges for Brahmins to recite auspicious benedictions, worships/receives them according to rule, and gives them a thousand niṣkas as dakṣiṇā (honorarium/charitable gift).
